STEFANO FOUNDATION 10TH ANNIVERSARY (2021) Honours List - ten named individuals who contributed to the public understanding of the Stefano shipwreck story and the country on which the story took place. Those remembered and listed by acclaim at the 2021 AGM include:
Gustave Rathe Grandson of Miho Baccich and the author of the popular 1990 book The Wreck of the Barque Stefano off the North West Coast of Australia in 1875 (Hesperian Press, 1990).
Syd Dale Aboriginal Elder and the former custodian of the North West Cape Country. The founding member of NWCEAC (with Ann Preest).
John Dale Aboriginal Elder. Son of Syd Dale and the present custodian of the North West Cape Country. The first named patron of the Stefano Foundation.
Maureen Dodd Aboriginal Ingadda Elder: Major contributor to the knowledge of the Gascoyne Aboriginal dreaming and to the NWCEAC.
Kate Morse Archaeologist. Discoverer of Mandu Mandu cone shell beads – the oldest examples of human adornment in Australia (c.32,000 years ago)
Bill Humphreys Museum researcher and collaborator of Ann Preest. Known for his investigation of Cape Range remipede community and discovery of the first Leptanthuridae (isopod) from the Southern Hemisphere.
Michael Zekulich Many West Australians came to know of the Stefano shipwreck story by reading Michael Zekulich’s articles in the West Australian newspaper.
Nenad Vekaric Dubrovnik demographer (Prof.) who provided valuable information on the Stefano crew and related persons.
Silvio Rivier Multiple SBS broadcasts of "A Tale of the two cities" produced by Silvio Rivier did much to promote the Stefano story nationally.
Fra Nikola Stanislav Novak In 2002 Fra Novak came to Fremantle with the "Jessie" painting. For many years he was in charge of Her Lady of Mercy Church Museum in Dubrovnik where “Jessie” and many other votive paintings are kept.
